Regarding comments by several posters hoping the leadership would acknowledge the problem: My region director was at our match today and informed me that there has been no communication among board members concerning this or any other issue. I reckon that tells a story in and of itself. I know my region director has attempted to get some discussion going a couple of months ago to no avail.

Steve, I am with you about trying to recruit new members. I have tried very-very hard for many years to do that, but, you know the old saying "You Can Lead A Horse To Water But You Can't Make Him Drink!". Now where are we going?

As far as saving money; many have said quit sending the paper out. I feel we need the paper. Granted the paper is not what it used to be. Those of us that are match directors or state directors just don't have much to say anymore. Many clubs send in reports in batches several at a time, but those without internet will never see them. I personally like seeing the scores from around the country. Could the paper format be changed? My church's bulletin each week is 1 8 1/2x11 page with normally 2-4 pages inside and lets us know everything each group in the church is doing during the week. I realize the paper would be reduced to mostly information only and articles by the board, but it should save money.

My good friend John has a philosophy of life that maybe we need to accept - "Everything dies."xp-100 wrote:Steve, I am with you about trying to recruit new members. Here is a novel idea if there are any willing volunteers - vote the current officers OUT at the next opportunity.

Re: STEVE WARE'S LETTER TO EDITOR
i'm here greg. i don't know the answer either. i never hear from the other board members and have only voted very few times since becoming region director. we have got to face that silhouette is a dying sport. we used to have around 15 to 20 club members that shot steel. now my club is down to 2. the club has told me that this will be the final year for silhouette to be allowed. closing down the range for 2 club members is not in the clubs best interest. i can see their point and can do nothing to stop them from shutting the program down. the volunteer idea sounds good. anyone want to step up and help run this organization ? i can do some but the last year all my time has been spent at my job. hopefully overtime will be reduced later this year. allen

That would be a big start!
Don't print the thing at all!!!! Publish it online. What a total waste.

Re: STEVE WARE'S LETTER TO EDITOR
Printing the news on line would be a great idea, but, there are still some people out there who does not have a computer nor do they want one of the evil things. Quarterly sounds great also. I was on the understanding that this was a non profit organization and was run by volunteer bases, I did know there are some getting paid for their time. I offered to help at my expense and was left on the side lines.

Re: STEVE WARE'S LETTER TO EDITOR
The thing I most look forward to in the IHMSA news is the monthly match results and the various records programs, which could easily be posted online. So cutting back to quarterly could cut costs, yet by putting results online it wouldn't limit our access to keeping up with shooters from all around IHMSA.xp-100 wrote:Printing the news on line would be a great idea, but, there are still some people out there who does not have a computer nor do they want one of the evil things.
