When the 357 SM/Max was introduced some of the early 38/357 sizer dies were not cut deep enough to fully resize the SM/Max. Since then I believe most companies have made there sizer dies compatable with the SM/Max. If you have really old 38/357 dies you might want to try sizing a Max case to make sure the sizer die is deep enough. The remaining dies can just be adjusted higher to accommodate the longer SM/Max cases.

For the Big Bore targets, yes, a 180 or 200gr bullet is helpful. However loads do not need to punish you if you can hold velocity to around 1200fps.
Using a 200gr, you need to strike the ram at about 850fps. rp
I’m pretty much a cast boolit shooter.
I recall seeing a commercial cast boolit recommended for the .357 max somewhere on the forum. What was it?
The Bomar rib is on its way, so I’m about ready to clang some steel.

I have had good luck with Leadheads bullets for commercial cast bullets.

I use a set of Redding carbide dies, Redding Competition Seater along with an RCBS roll crimp die - all for the 357 Mag. Work fine for the Max as well.
