Greg, The part of the rule book you paraphrased actually only applies to Production guns (Section VI: Handguns A. Production)
Your comments are well taken but lead into my other topic about needing a rewrite of our rules. When PH was introduced their rules were basically tacked onto the end of the rule book. Some research must have been done to see if other sections of the rules were impacted but the area you cited was not even considered to be applicable to PH or else there would have been mention of PH. My biggest concern about adding PH, or anything else for that matter, needs to be thoroughly researched so any new person visiting the IHMSA website for current rules gets the real info about our sport. As many have said, PH SHOULD have been a category of "shoot what you use to hunt with". Only restrictions should have been cartridge limits and even then just to prevent target damage since targets are the major expenses for any IHMSA club. Forget grip mods, forget internal mods and especially forget scope magnification limits. Instead on attracting new shooters to IHMSA we just made a new category that has been used by existing IHMSA members. I'm all for that but don't hang a bunch of silly rules that would not be used in real world hunting situations. You shouldn't have to modify your grip if you wanted to shoot a flop PH entry. Check out my suggestion about rewriting our rules. One thing that has always baffled me when rules were added or modified then lots of comments appear how the rules would have been much better if some changes had been incorporated. Seems like new rules pop out of nowhere that might have been better applied if some feedback had been received by at least some of the MDs around the country. When PH entries are shot at our club (very few) I can't say that our MD has even checked the scopes for max 6X or any other IHMSA rules for that matter. We consider PH to be an OPEN category where you can shoot anything you want as long as you don't damage our targets. Sorry for the long comment. I just hated to hear you chop off the grip of your dedicated PH gun.

Actually Lynn in Section XII under Class Rules Item 3. Guns must be as manufactured with only cosmetic modiļ¬cations. I copied and pasted that straight from the book.
Lynn I didn't chop off a grip just to shoot PH. All my unlimited guns will fit the "category". I just got something that would allow me to shoot at the Field pistol targets from a freestyle position. All my scopes are variable and go down to 6X.
Next spring we need to meet in Crittenden.
