Well, dummy me! I honestly did not give it a thought but you are right. Easily rectified as I have a wide selection of conventional apertures that were purchased from Champions Choice. Thanks for calling that to my attention.

I say go ahead and use your front insert even at the Ints if you go there. If some inspector can tell that you made your own insert then that person should get the Golden Nazi Inspector award. This is not so much a sport anymore as a contest of rules. I think we need ONE MORE category/class where ANYTHING goes. Twenty pound bench guns, homemade sights, heaven forbid a non-TC screw in a TC Production barrel. All these things should be allowed in this new category/class. Many clubs have stopped giving cash/trophy awards so we all should just be shooting for fun anyway. I was hoping PH would be this "open" category/class since handgun shooters will use the best glass, iron sights, grips or even make something to make their hunting handguns easier to shoot or help accuracy. I know many clubs allow shooters to shoot entries with non-IHMSA approved guns anyway. I would like to know if anyone but you could tell you made your front insert. More power to you for being handy enough to do that. Hope you shoot lots of 40s because of that front insert.

I appreciate your comments Lynn. One has to wonder if the NRA has rule "confusion" issues in their various disciplines.
I'm using the identical sight setup for air pistol. I shot my new Crosman 1701P for the first time in both Production and Unlimited at OKC's match last night. I shot a 40 and 39 respectively so no complaints here!

I rarely post but always lurk and constantly talk under my breath!

I would argue that the disc with the dot is legal for production.

I used a similar setup for a while but found I didn’t shoot it well and gave it up.

My argument is that the disc I was using is a cataloged readily available item that fits without alteration.

The production rules state that your sights may be painted and that is what was done with the dot.

I shot this in several production categories and felt very qualified to argue its legality.

Jim, I agree this should be Production legal but you overlooked the part where 1121 was making his own front inserts. I'm sure some rule Nazi at a championship match would not approve the gun if they knew this was a homemade front insert. That is carrying things to an extreme but that is what the rules say. This is another example of rules that don't make a lot of sense. Anyway I think 1121 should use it wherever he shoots.

You are correct. The disc he was making on his lathe are not production legal. The disc that I was using were watch crystals which are available in any millimeter size by tenths of a millimeter.
What I was using is production legal, what he was making would only qualify as an unlimited sight.

You know I am one to push the envelope and have tried everything.

The most important thing for people to remember about production is the line “fit without alteration”

And that means alteration to neither the part nor the gun.
