rule changes do not need to be disseminated to general membership. Only bylaw changes require general membership. Rules committee reccomends how to handle voting on rule changes and then passes on to board for how to handle (board vote, general meeting or voting by full membership). and it is 60 days prior to world champs.

Not trying to nitpick, but the rules say 90 days prior
1. Any IHMSA member in good standing is eligible to submit proposals for rule changes according to the following procedures.
2. In order for a rule change proposal to receive consideration at the annual business meeting, rule change proposals must be submitted in writing to the Rules Committee Chairman a minimum of ninety days prior to the meeting day.
A) TheAnnualbusinessmeetingshallbetheprimaryvenueforaction on rule change proposals; however, where deemed appropriate, the Board may act on rule change proposals at any time during the year.
3. Format: in order for a rule proposal to receive consideration, it must comply with the following:
A) The proposal must be submitted in writing including the author’s name, IHMSA membership number and method of contact.
B) Submit the existing, affected rule as written in the Official Rules,
Official RuleS 3
using exact wording. And submit the rule as proposed to be revised, added to and/or deleted, using exact wording; including, where applicable, all resultant revisions to other sections of the Official Rules.
C) At the author’s option, submit documentation supporting the adoption of the proposed rule change.

Dan, I think you have identified a source of contention about rule changes. The "general membership does not need to be notified". Only thing I think is wrong with that statement is later the general membership has to abide by a rule change they may have had no say about. With the limited membership we have today I'm sure many of them would at least like to have some input into a proposed rule change. Back to the original thread. I hope this new shooter uses his gun and red dot in as many matches as he is able to attend and gets to enjoy the better part of IHMSA. The locals matches are the life blood of IHMSA and the MDs do whatever it takes to put on the best matches for all shooters. All rules may or may not apply at local matches.

Amen to that. This is exactly why Jim Fields, OKC's match director, is allowing red dot sights for production and revolver at the local matches. Always good to shoot something even if it does not count for record.

ok, I seem to have had several Senior moments yesterday!
You are right, it is 90 days prior. It is 60 days for bylaw changes to be posted in the newsletter prior to voting by membership.
the other senior moment was I shot a match yesterday and forgot I changed the front sight. explains why I shot so lousy..
But, Shoot what the Match director allows you. almost every club now has some type of Non sanctioned discipline during their matches.

In the forum look under Matches, State, Ohio and you will see the 2019 LHA Match Flyer. Gives you contact points and a rough map for the range. We shoot on the Logan County Fish & Game grounds so you could also Google for that and get some extra info. You do NOT have to be an IHMSA member to shoot at our matches.
