So if this proposal is approved, we will be adding yet more categories.
I'm not trying to be argumentive. I'll accept anything that will attract more shooters. But it was mentioned earlier in this thread that we are already choking on too many categories.

I like everyone at OKC, they are a great bunch of guys and I'm very happy for their success. We are all friends going into this debate and I expect us to still be friends at the resolution of it. However, history tells us that some clubs can have participation in certain areas that does not transfer to nationwide popularity.

As most board members know my proposal for red dot sights, which I submitted in 2017, was allowed to expire w/o being voted on allowing red dot sights on revolvers & production guns.

Reason for this proposal was to level the playing field for older shooters, who can no longer compete against much younger shooters with an iron sight set-up & also increasing entries in both categories. Most all shooting disciplines across the world have adopted red dot sights over the past several years...…

.....the Practical Hunter category was a direct result of a proposal I made several years ago & it is one of the main reasons that Oklahoma City Gun Club is averaging over 60 entries per monthly matches & that number will only increase at our club as well as other clubs across the country with the addition of these two new revolver classes, no doubt in my mind whatsoever. The PH category has literally exploded at OKC over the past two years.

RESPONSE: (from above paragraphs)
Paragraph 1- The 32 delegates present at the 2019 Internationals were asked to report the participation level from their club, state, and/or region. Each person was given time to respond. There were perhaps 5 entries nationwide from outside the OKC area. No vote was needed, there was no nationwide support.

Paragraph 2- Practical Hunter was created inclusive of this perspective. There is no reason to exclude red dots from a class that restricts optics to 6x or less. While red dots are used in other disciplines, no other discipline is so restrictive as to limit it to a type of gun (revolver) and then have it shoot against open sight guns. The exception is Bullseye shooters, they have adopted red dots at some levels but not international competition. (This info was taken from the Bullseye thread on the Target Talk forum.)

Paragraph 3- Revolvers are included in Practical Hunter. At 2018 OKC Internationals, 24 entries in PH classes and no revolver entries. In the 2019 Internationals, 46 entries and no revolvers. Every shooter had a choice, and 100% chose not to use a revolver. Regarding the red dot vs. scope issue, in 2019, 30 of the 46 entries scored 77x80 or more with 14 scoring perfect 80's. Again, when given a choice, 100% of shooters (or very near that) chose scopes instead of red dots.

This is real data, not speculation, opinion, or hopeful optimism. We had a one year trial period, and now are being asked to ignore the participation level info from that period. If a club wants to run their own non-sanctioned category and then submit real data to a true committee asking hard questions, that's the route they should pursue.

I am the person who brought up too many categories. Right now, it is physically impossible for anybody to shoot all categories. Even the world champs does not have enough time.

Since Jim fields rules proposal has been submitted through the proper channels, it now has to go through the rules process. What happens to it will be considered by both the rules committee and the board. This thread is mainly to get the members opinions on this proposal that the board can consider.

Since I have Never shot a Practical hunter entry (and probably never will), I am going to keep my opinions to a minimum.
