Re: New Website
So Justin - let me see if I understand you. In your mind, the IHMSA of today (in terms of membership and participation) is SO much better that we need to forget history. The whole question of "reinventing" IHMSA and handgun silhouette is a moot point. The generic "shooter" of today can not be enticed to become interested in IHMSA style shooting. As highstandard40 said - our sport is too difficult, too expensive, and frankly - too boring for many younger shooters who were raised with a video game mentality. Our sport may have had its "moment in the sun" - and a select group of dedicated individuals will keep it alive, albeit on life support. I do not understand your distain for the "good ole days" - I suppose that big matches, intense but friendly competition, and the fellowship of like-minded people does not appeal to you. As I have said before - I have been an active member of IHMSA for 32 years, and have witnessed MANY changes. I have made many friends, and have met many interesting people. I have won my share of 1st places - but that is not what kept me going. The sport appealed to me because it was a competition against one's self - an ongoing effort to improve my skills, all the while in a friendly but competitive environment. I will again use the term you so hate - in the "old days" it was quite the accomplishment to trophy at a match, because good shooters were plentiful, and the competition fierce. Frankly, I miss the big matches, and I miss the many shooters that have come and gone. I have also served the association - as an assistant state director, state director, match director, and Regional director. I don't expect you to understand what I am talking about, because - obviously, you were not there to see what I am talking about. I still do not believe that reinventing IHMSA will accomplish anything except to allienate the remaining base of die-hard members who are keeping our heads above water. I suppose that you are looking for an answer to our problems, but consider this - maybe there is none !
