G'day , thank you for your reply

I am aware of the current factory offering ( I have already got a set ) but as I have actual Bomars on all my other silhouette guns ( Rampro, T/C's , XP100's , Rugers & Dan Wessons ) I would like to have them for my Freedoms .
Regards Paul .

OK here's what I did for my new Model 08 single shot FA. The factory base that comes with their sights is the same as what they used on the Bomars. So if you have an extra Bomar you can carefully take the top piece off and attach it to the factory base. The key word here is carefully. You will need an appropriate sized punch to drive the pin out with the pin you will need to make a custom made pin that is the equal width as the width of the top piece. Also make sure you keep the factory pin. With the punch still in you take the pin you made and slide it in from the other side and once the pin is a little over halfway through you can remove the punch and advance the pin you made into the top piece so it is evenly spaced so you can remove the top. Then you take the top and place it in the factory base. Then you take the original Bomar pin and replace the one you made. That should do it. Inside the Bomar there is a spring the rests against the pin and the other end puts pressre on the evelation screw so you can feel the clicks. Once again be careful that you don't screw up the Bomar. That's what I did and it worked for me.

G'day Larry , thank you for your reply

that was one of the first thoughs that I had as I have 7 to 8 various Bomar sets spare at the moment for T/C contenders & encores & one S&W set but alas I could not do it as the current Freedom Arms sights made by Champion use a considerably larger pin to hold the sight to the base than the standard Bomar pin ( I checked all my sights even the ones on my guns

) and there was not enough meat in the blade to machine a larger hole.
I contacted Freedom Arms to see if I could get a base with a smaller hole or no hole so I could machine a new hole the right size but Freedom told me that the bases are not machined in house & have not been for years they come complete from the sight provider so that was a no go either .

G'day Larry , thank you for your further reply

I have have spoken to a few competent machinists down here about making me a base but so far the cost has been prohibitive

I told the last bloke I only wanted one possibly two but from the price he quoted I would have to give up drinking beer for the next six months

I guess I will just have to hope I can find one via this add .

Would it be possible to use the elevator and cross pin from one of your spare Bomars and still insert the elevator into the newer FA base using the older cross pin then use some Loctite or quick setting epoxy to hold the thinner pin in the base? You have the advantage of having a larger hole in the base to accept the thinner cross pin from the older Bomars so at least you could use the older elevator and thinner cross pin. You just need a way to hold the thinner pin in the newer base with the larger cross pin holes. I don't know how picky everyone is about rules down under but slight pinning on each end might work too. As long and the thinner cross pin can't work out of the base I doubt if there would be enough difference in the cross pin diameters to really affect the way the elevator moves up and down or even affect consistency of movement. Might be worth the experiment. As said before, be careful there is a TINY spring in there just waiting to hide in your carpet!!!!!
