Shooting glasses advice

Hi all :-h
On my quest to return to pistol shooting I have discovered there has been a lot of changes in the sport
not only with the equipment used but with me not only am I a lot older, fatter and not in very good shape I also wear glasses which is the biggest problem I'm facing.. I first discovered this a few years back when I decide to start back hunting with a pistol . Quick fix was a red dot sight worked great.
And I know and plan on using “optics” on some of my silhouette guns.
But I still love to shoot my SA Rugers with iron sights and Hope to do that was well
So I'm asking for advice or input on what yall do.
Here's what I'm trying
my regular glasses works some what OK -but no side shields
My safety glasses from work with side shields- I can't seam to get them were I'm looking thought the right part of the lens And they seam to fog up easy
regular shooting/ safety glasses – front sight just a blur /can't see to make sight adjustments
Safety glasses that have a small cheater lens at bottom -front sight just a blur /but I can see to change sight settings.
I know I'm not the 1st. To run into this problem
so lets hear it

I have found that using an adjustable aperture on my glasses really helps. The device mounts onto you glasses with as small suction cup, and you can dial down the opening until both sights are sharp. He is a link http://www.eabco.com/store/products/Mer ... 14-61.html

You might also consider shooting glasses such as Champion. Here's an FAQ on them. http://www.precision-sports.com/qchamp.htm

Also, ask to borrow other shooters' glasses or Merit to see what works for you. If you elect the Champion system, you will need to decide on a proper diopter size. If a shooter has a system that seems to work for you, ask what diopter he/she has in the glasses.

Best of luck,

Steve W.

If you go with the shooting glasses like Steve suggested (I use Knobloch) you can have your perscription ground into a lens that fits your set-up, then add the aperature attchment and you are good to go. I took one of the lens holders to my eye doctor and he had one made to fit. I'm an old blind guy that's been able to shoot a few more years of open sight guns with this setup. I am starting to favor the scope guns though. Get'n old ain't for sissies.

If your front sight is a blur then you are probably farsighted or you don't have any correction for distant vision, but you are old enough that your eyes have limited range of focus. I'm older too and this first started happening to me a little before I turned 50. Actually I'm a bit nearsighted so I've always been able to focus on my front sight reasonably well. I used to wear my glasses with distance correction for shooting but now I don't do that, I just wear clear glasses.

Depending on your eyes, you might be able to use low powered reading glasses available at your local drugstore for $10-20 in min. power of about +1.25 diopter. If this is too strong for you then you can go to your optometrist and have him check your vision, and you can have glasses specially made.

The prescription glasses that I've seen for shooting don't seem to offer a lot of protection, but I've also heard that there are safety glasses that you can wear over regular glasses.

My eye doctor lets me bring my TC to the office for fitting my prescription then I ordered safety glasses. Its made a huge difference in my scores.
