Hi all, I am recently back into silhouette after a 10yr hiatus and I recently bought an XP re-chambered in 7 Int. With it I received a bunch of miscellaneous brass. Some plated 308 that has been formed, some LC match 72, 77, and 69, then some 7Int with the IHMSA head stamp. Then the Winremfed mix of 308 that has been formed, which is what I have the most of. Ideally I would like to use the IHMSA brass but don't have quite enough pieces (only about 25). I guess the question is If I could find some more IHMSA brass is it all made by the same MFG? If I wanted to use what I have is there one of these that is closer to the IHMSA stamp brass? I know the LC is good brass but my understanding is it is also lower volume than more commercially available brass. Thanks for any responses.

Benjamn, Seems like I read somewhere years ago that Elgin worked out a deal with Federal to produce the IHMSA head stamped brass. Using 308 is OK but probably would have a slightly smaller capacity especially when using the military 308 brass. The 7 IHMSA and 7 IHMSA-X cartridges were based on the 300 Savage necked down to 7mm. Could also use the 250 Savage necked up to 7mm. I have even taken new 22-250 brass and necked it up to make 7 IHMSA cases. You may not notice much of a difference in shooting the mixed brass but I would at least use the same head stamped brass for the same animal targets and not switch say between bank one and two of turkeys. You might see a slight change in sight settings. Since the IHMSA head stamped brass is now almost in a collectable status, I would suggest you start with some new 300 Savage or the others I mentioned above and form some new cases. That way you will know they all have the same internal capacities. 7 IHMSA and 7 IHMSA-X are great cartridges and just about any load is very accurate.

The ram on the rim won't get you anymore hits than using 300 Savage brass. For shooting brass, it is still cheaper to start with new 300 Savage cases. I have one box of the new IHMSA brass but I just use it to look at every so often.

Thanks, I found 60 more pieces of the ram and got them coming. I just like the idea of at least having the same Mfg brass it seems like I would at least have some consistency. I realize they won't help me score but it will be cool to miss with them ;)

Is that why you have been missing so many targets with your latest bolts guns??? IHMSA didn't make brass for them!!!!!!
