When setting the scope, do most folks set the cross-hairs on the point of aim or on a 6 o'clock belly hold for the critter?

I am currently shooting from a flop if that makes any difference.

Personally, I set all of my scopes for "point of aim - point of impact". This eliminates guesswork, because all targets are not created equally - length of legs. etc. I also know that some people try to eliminate adjustments as much as possible, but I use Leupolds with target knobs in Bigbore, and Bushnell Elite's in smallbore - they both have very repeatable adjustments. So, I click up just like open sights.

I do the same as braud357. One thing to consider if you were to set the scope for belly line..........if you want to shoot the same gun for half scale, you'll need completely different sight settings.....And what would you do if you were to be in a shootoff? It's a whole lot easier to find point of aim, point of impact settings and then you are good to go for any circumstance.

I agree with the brothers Braud, crosshairs in the center of the target. As far as trying to find one scope setting and vary the hold at each distance...that's what they put those knobs on there for.

I have been trying to figure this stuff out by myself. I am shooting air-pistol at real metal targets at my house. I started out by setting the scope so I could pick an edge detail (where the leg joins the body) and using that as an aiming point. When I started trying to improve my skill, I started shooting chickens at the 18 yard ram distance, and had to come up with a whole new sight setting.

Anyway, I will develop settings for point of impact and use that in the future. BTW, those chickens sure are little at 18yds, but I have been able to pay attention to details and hit 5-6 in a row.
