Today we had the best match we’ve had in quite some time. Fifteen entries were fired along with 11 NRA Smallbore Cowboy Rifle entries. We were glad to see Allen Gaskin catch a break from his busy work schedule so he could attend today. His Freedom Arms revolver delivered a 34X40. He added an Unlimited 37X40 and a UAS 34X40. Richard West dropped by and fired a couple of UAS entries. First a 33X40 with his Volquartsen Ruger MK, then he re-entered with his Shilen Anschutz and finished with a 38X40. David Heintz had two entries, a UAS 38X40 and a UASFS 29X40. In spite of the brisk winds today, my brother Philip and I each shot UAS 40s. I tried my hand at Practical Hunter Short Course using an iron sighted Contender 22 Hornet. The result was a 37X40. Other PH entries included Philip’s 39X40 with his scoped 22 Hornet, Cliff Johnson’s 39X40 with a new-to-him Magnum Research 1722, Ellis Sisk’s 30X40 with a FA Revolver, and a pair of entries by Sal Molea, a 31X40 and a re-entry 37X40.At the end of the match Philip and I had a UAS shootoff to decide our matching scores and I somehow managed to best him by a couple of targets. The weather was great today and a good time was had by all. A big thank you goes out to everyone who helped with target setting today, giving myself, and even more so my wife Carolyn, a much needed break. And thanks to David Heintz for remaining after the match to help pick up the rails and targets.
