Jackie,
Not trying to be nit-picky but I think there is a rule somewhere about practicing on a range before a championship match. Now if each shooter only gets 5 total sighting shots on those days then that would be legal. If the shooters would get to fire more rounds than five I think that would be considered practicing. Are sighters going to be offered on match days? Just curious if shooters could not be there on those two days if they would get sighters before shooting for score.

Good morning Lynn.
There’s no practice on match days!
And yes everyone gets 5 sighters shots per entry, during match days.

for match Directors!
If anybody needs Match supplies, I will be bringing a lot of items with me to the world champs. If you need anything, you can get items from me Then. If one of your club members will be going, I can also issue items to them.
Would just like a Heads up though to make sure I bring enough stuff. most items though I can print out at the Range. score cards, rule books, Large forms, etc are a different story.

Lynn,
I thought the same thing. I don’t think it’s quite kosher, it’s practice no matter what you call it, and an advantage to anyone fortunate enough to be able to be there a couple days early .

Melvin, It is all up to the local MD but our club impression was no practice on the range just prior to a championship match.
We used to host the OH championship match many years ago and when we set up the range for the championship match not even the club members got to practice or get sighters.
To each their own but it does favor the locals who live near the hosting club.
Hope it all goes well for ALL shooters.

So, a person could go there, practice for 2 days, then 5 sighters on match day, and shoot against a person that gets there on match day, having never even seen the range!?
I’m sorry, but that is just wrong!

And I just thought that it was "Home Field Advantage" for the most part, looking back at past results....
Not that I have much inclination to head that way, either.

I have been to several different ranges with practice days before a Championship match. I have participated when I could and have watched some people spend all day checking 14 different guns.
A few of my observations.
1. It can tend to wear a person out and the more tired you get on a long practice day the less reliable (and potentially misleading) the results.
2. The conditions (light, wind, time of day, humidity, etc.) may or may not be similar to the day and time you end up shooting a particular gun.
3. I have not been able to associate winning with participating in a practice day.
4. No pressure on practice day, plenty of pressure on match day.
5. The ones that win make the least mistakes, the least wiggles, least twitches, the least "good enough" sight pictures.
6. A practice day should get you within a click or two on each animal but then again, if someone is well practiced and prepared, they should already be within a click or two. If you are not within a click or two, you should seriously ask why because something may not be right. Not saying it never happens that your off several or many clicks, but it should raise questions.
7. A practice day can help to even the odds against the home field advantage.
Be well and shoot great.
We get on the train Saturday afternoon to head for OKC. Already shipped 60 lbs of ammo ahead of time.
