Website upgrade

First off, I am by no means an expert (or anything close to it) on the subject of internet bulletin boards.
I am active on another board (totally unrelated to guns) and it also uses the phpBB system. A member there who knew what he was doing recently upgraded to the latest version of phpBB and it made a HUGE improvement.
Perhaps that is all that is needed here and in so doing, nothing is lost. There is a ton of valuable info here and I can imagine that trying to move it to a different platform could be risky if not impossible.
Food for thought.

the upgrade has already been tried. we cannot do the upgrade without full admin privileges as some changes are required.

I am far from an expert for phpBB. I know Vbulletin well as I run it on my website. we are looking into different ideas to upgrade the site. another problem is I have no special privileges on the forums, so stuck doing anything. First, need to find from the higher ups what we want added (blogs, article sections, etc).

I am willing to help out since I have a lot of experience with forums and maintaining them.

I applaud your willingness to help. I would suggest two things: find out who has keys to the vault and get privileges. Then start a topic for the members to chime in on suggestions. It may very well be that everyone is happy with it the way it is.
The most gripes I've seen is about difficulty in posting pictures. I have no trouble but others do, for whatever reason. My internet provider allocates space for me to use as I please. I upload pics to that space with file transfer software then use the IMG function here to make the link. A bit involved perhaps but it has been foolproof for me. The image is there as soon as the message opens. The Upload Attachment function will work also but requires you to click the link. No big deal tho.
Like I said, perhaps the board is best left alone.

Does BOOMER have all the admin privileges? He's from my neck of the woods but I haven't heard anything from him in several years. He got this thing off the ground.

Edited: He hasn't been on here since 2015. I sent a text to the match director in Crittenden Ky. Maybe she can help with his contact info.

that is the problem. Boomer built the site, turned it over to Proclaim but did not give him full admin Privileges! We have been trying to get hold of Boomer for over a year but no luck.

The match director at Crittenden has a good database of addresses, phone numbers and emails. I'll see what I can do.

Is the above mentioned "Boomer" even still alive?

does not matter now as I got around it. I will be doing the forum upgrade tonight or tomorrow and while I do the upgrade, the forums will be down for an hour or two.
