I read the rules on production legal guns but I'm still not sure I understand them entirely. Does the grip and forend on say a Contender, have to be a T/C cataloged item in order for it to be legal or can it be any manufacturer's cataloged item intended for a Contender? For example a Pachmayer grip set or a set from say Bullberry/Gunstocks Inc, etc. Would those be legal for a production gun?

Pachmayers are legal for production. I do know that the grip and forend that Jim Ishmael built for NRA Hunters Pistol and Field Pistol is legal. (I own and use the grip). I can only assume it was evaluated by Dell Taylor the Evaluation Director. As for the other makers I do not know if they have been evaluated. My understanding is they have to be cataloged items and built for the "masses". In other words not one of a kinds or built to fit a persons individual hand or body.

It has to be a catalog item for the pistol you plan to put it on and fit without modification to either the pistol or grip. The same is true for forends. The forend cannot create an artificial support as defined in the rulebook.

Ok that makes sense. I've been looking into a grip set for my 10" Encore since I hate the factory rubber grips for it. This is the grip and forend I've been looking at getting. The upper picture "hammer" grip is the one I like and then the 6" forend for the 10" Encore. Where do I contact the person to see if it's been evaluated or to get it evaluated?

Humble opinion from a lowly match director, but I do not believe you need to have these products evaluated. The rule book reads, "The original stock, grip or fore end may be replaced with a stock, grip and/or fore end that is a manufacturer's catalog item(s), which fit and attach to the handgun without any alteration to the stock, grip or fore end or handgun."

The products are catalog items and are made for your handgun. Therefore, they meet the rules.
