I will be having cataract surgery next Tuesday.
I’m trying to decide if I will have them put in a Red dot, or a crosshair.

The last 6 months, it has gotten really blurry. Hoping it will make a real,difference

I had it a couple years ago. I could only have the "cheap" surgery. I have 20/25 vision in my dominate eye. I still cannot shoot iron sights. When I see the sight the target is so blurry I can't hold well on the target. When I see the target well enough to line up the sight on it the sight looks like a melted candle. Peeps didn't help. Melvin good luck. I suggest you ask Robert for a loan and get the laser treatment ,

Melvin I had it Jan was a year ago and was looking for see how much better I could see my sights/ target then COVID hit and never got to all season
Then well the event on Dec 18 kinda messed me up for this year. Maybe when the doc removes the cataract he could remove and replace your spotter

Regarding my spotter, modern medicine can only do so much!

My experience with cataract surgery and shooting has been positive. I had mine done approx. two years ago. Medicare gives you a choice of a lens that either gives you better distance vision or close-up. I naturally chose the distance so that I can see the targets clearly. On a good day I have 20/15 in my left eye. My right eye equates to 20/30 to 20/40 due to some astigmatism issues. I shoot right eye, so to compensate for that I wear a disposable contact in the right. For Production and Unlimited, I shoot peeps front and rear with a Gehmann 510 adjustable iris in the back. Stopping down the iris sharpens-up the front aperture for a perfect sight picture.
If you care to pay for it out of your own pocket, the cornea can be re-shaped with either a LRI procedure or Lasik to fix astigmatism.
An easy way to tell if you have astigmatism issues is to look thru a red-dot sight. If the dot looks elongated or football shaped rather than a pin-point, then you have astigmatism (unless you're using a really crappy red -dot sight).
