Possible way for IHMSA to save money?
In the good old days, completed score cards had to be mailed to IHMSA HQ so there was a need for formal score cards. Now that many clubs, or at least members in a club, have pcs and access to the IHMSA site, could the organization save some money by having score cards in printable formats (.doc and/or .pdf) so score cards could just be downloaded and printed by local clubs and save some printing and shipping costs for IHMSA? Scores now days could be kept on tablet paper since they are no longer turned in to HQ. Different color cards are nice but as long as all the different disciplines and classes are included, we could live without the colored cards. Downloaded versions could be formated to print two per page to save local printing costs. When I was match director I had to make sure we had plenty of cards on hand but a downloadble card could just be printed by the local club as needed. I'm sure the small cost of printing score cards by the local clubs would not make or break them but printing and mailing by HQ does add up over time. The online cards wouldn't need to be the "official" coyprighted version so that wouldn't be an issue since they really would not need to have the official IHMSA logo on them. Just food for thought. Anyone at HQ have an idea what the annual printing and mailing costs are for scorecards?

Good idea, I have already printed some generic scorecards to use in practice. As long as the M.D. has all of the proper info to submit scores, I think it would work and save money.

Do the score cards have to mailed to HQ or can they be sent by the MD by email?

when i send in my match report i just send in copy of the match report along with a check for the match fees. you don't have to send in all the scorecards. allen

Re: Possible way for IHMSA to save money?
In the early days, score cards had to be mailed to IHMSA HQ along with the match reports. I think so HQ could verify the number of entries (my guess). Score cards then had to be the "official" IHMSA approved cards with the copyrighted logo. As Allen pointed out, MDs just send in the match reports and entry money so score cards can be a plain piece of paper as far as HQ is concerned. If we had some generic type of score card on the IHMSA web site that MDs could download and print (two per page) then HQ could save a lot (some?) printing and mailing costs of score cards. Each club could absorb the samll cost of printing score cards for their local matches. Official cards could still be used at the INTs each year if mandated by HQ. Every dollar saved helps keep our organization going.

Here is what I made. It covers all info needed for a match director to submit scores to H.Q.'s. I have it saved in PDF format and will print out just like you see it here on a 8 1/2x11 letter size piece of paper. Just cut it in half and you have 2 scorecards. You can print it on card stock or to save $$, just print it on plain paper. If anyone wants a copy, shoot me an email at: satman357@gmail.com Enter Scorecard in the "Subject" line, and I will reply with it attached. It prints out much nicer than the sample that you see here.

Re: Possible way for IHMSA to save money?
I went back & looked at the 2011 statement of income & expense in the March issue of the paper. Total printing cost for score cards was less than $600. Total expenses were in excess of $102,000. People, we are not talking a major impact here! If every club printed their own cards and totally eliminated that expense we are talking saving one half of one percent of total expenses.
