What scope for fifth scale?

I plan on trying my hand at shooting 5th scale this year & am wondering about recomendations for a scope.

The gun is a TC with a Bullberry 14" match barrel on it. The present scope on it is an old "Jap Glass" 4-12 Bushnell rifle scope. The combo shoots so well together that I figure I got a shot at not making a complete fool of myself on fifth scale.

While the gun is "fine" as is I would like to put better glass on it & am curious what ya'll think is a good way to go.

Oh BTW, I will be shooting flop.

What position will you use? If you shoot from the flop position and use a rifle scope, the sky is the limit. Get as much glass as you can afford. For creedmore or dead frog, I would suggest getting a scope with the correct eye relief for you. They are NOT all the same. Burris offers the most power in a handgun scope but will not work for me at all. Leupold is probably the best for most people but again the eye relief is wrong for me and my long lanky frame. I use the Elite 3200 scopes on all of my guns and it is a good fit for me. So my advice would be try someone else's rig and find a scope that you are comfortable with. The key here is a good fit that you can shoot well without having to fight the scope. If you have to struggle to find the correct eye relief for each shot you will not perform at your best.

Assuming you are shooting from the dead frog or Creedmoor position, the best out there is the Leupold 2.5x8 scope. It provides the necessary eye relief (you will not be able to use the full power of a Burris scope. Many have tried & failed.) and the highest quality optics with the ability to use it at full 8 power. (I start at 6x on chickens the go to 8x on pigs. I find 8x on chickens makes it too easy to shoot the wrong chicken.)

Now, if this will be a dedicated Small Bore scope, I will make one additional suggestion. Send it to Leupold and have the parallax adjusted to 60 yards. The standard factory setting is 90 yards. Sixty yards will resolve most parallax problems, and the cost of doing this is only $15 plus shipping. Also, their turn around time is very quick.

As hs40 stated get the most scope you can afford. I know Mr. Fields and some of the other flop shooters use a straight 36X Weaver with a dot reticle. I am not sure of the dot size. At this time I am not able to use anything above about 14-16x in the flop position. I have a 10-40x Tasco on a .223 barrel I can get nowhere near the top end of the power range. You will have to find out how many x's you can use comfortably then get the scope of your choice. When I get the money and the right deal comes along I am going to go with straight power scopes instead of variables in the 14-16x range.

What I had my eye on was a Elite 6-24X but was wondering if I was looking at to much scope.

What advantage does a fixed power have over a variable?

In my opinion it has a serious disadvantage as you just lost flexibility. If you buy a less expensive scope such as a BSA you will find (in my opinion) that you start loosing eye relief as you go beyond the mid range of the scope. I have a BSA 6-24 on my small bore US gun & keep it at 14.

I use a BSA 38x44 on a Ruger. It’s not the brightest scope I’ve ever used but it’s very repeatable and I like the fine cross hairs without a dot. It’s the same rig I shoot UAS.
