June 2013 Match Results

Post by high standard 40 »

ASCENSION SILHOUETTE
GONZALES, LA
JUNE 1, 2013
BY: CHARLIE BRAUD

Our June match puts us over half way through the 2013 Silhouette season and this leaves us with only three matches remaining before the Louisiana State Championship. Floyd Younger joined us today but an equipment failure caused him to have a very short day forcing a DNF. Jay Clark was on hand and fired a 37 with his Anschutz in UAS-AAA, and then he had to leave because of a sick child at home. My brother Philip wins the “confusing results” award for the day. He first ran his Ruger Charger through the field and managed only a 39X40, then re-entered on the Fifth-Scale targets and got a 40X40. I shot two entries today, both with irons sights, and left a few standing. The old eyes just aren’t what they used to be, but I still had a great time. Richard & Ginny West each fired a couple of entries as did our old friend Robert Stevens. Scores are listed below.

Thanks to Charlie for spotting me on rams - he was able to witness one of the luckiest shots I have ever made ! The trigger pull on my Charger leaves a bit to be desired ! I was fighting the last couple of shots, and I totally blew the last shot. I called it a miss, and then looked up and saw that the 10th ram was down ! I barely grazed it on the edge of the chest, and it fell VERY slowly. I guess it is better to be lucky than good !! I am grateful for my first fifth-scale 40x40 - but I am not very proud of that last shot !

Silhouette shooting takes skill but it sure doesn't hurt to be lucky too. Look at it this way, you had 30 very skillful shots!!! Great shooting!

Way to go Phillip. I feel your pain on the big ones. At the ECC I blew the first chicken ~x( and then ran the rest for a 59.
