the PH class will be voted on by the BOD at FT. Stockton in july this year.also it will be offered at the internationals this year. that's all the info i have at this time. allen

We offered PH at the West Coast Championship last year and will do so this year under the same guidelines. That being that all scores are lumped together, and one championship trophy will be awarded to the high score regardless of the discipline.

Since it is not possible to enter PH scores in the IHMSA match software as a sanctioned discipline this was the best way of handling it without doing an individual spreadsheet.

I originally was not in favor of PH--just seemed like there were getting to be too many categories. But having a wife and daughter that seem to be interested in getting into silhouette shooting a little, it seems like a great place to start for beginners. The only reason my wife shot 3 matches last year was because of practical hunter, and my daughter has started to show an interest this year. Shooting out of the creedmoor and having the muzzle that close to body parts is not a very comfortable position for a newer shooter, so I would now change my opinion on PH. If it makes it easier for new shooters, then that is what we need.

We need fifth scale production and half scale production class. Same equipment, same game, just different skill set. And different eyes. No additional cost to shooters who shoot production, just another category that won't be controlled by 40 plus shoot-offs. (or 60-plus, depending on where you shoot). I like classes where targets are left. Gives hope that you could be the first "40".

I stated in 1985, I was told then by a shooter that all the targets should be half the size they are. But he also said sport would be so hard it would be difficult to get new shooters. Don't boo me here, I had just started when this conversation took place. I suggested only International shooters should shoot the smaller targets.

The match director at my home club has worked very hard to successfully grow our sport. Of the new shooters he’s added over the last 2-3 years about half shoot a Ruger Charger with a 3x9 scope; cheap (under $500) and accurate (after a trigger job). The Charger comes with bipods and several new shooters have shot a 39/40 from the bipods their first time out. The Charger is a true practical hunter’s pistol (rabbits, tree rats & ground hogs) but with a 3x9 it doesn’t fit PH – maybe we just need a new class, PH/Auto.
