IHMSA News is on the website

Post by KickBass »

This month's issue is on the website, try it out and see if it works for you. It can be found by going to ihmsa.org and then to the IHMSA News tab. This is a 20 MB file, so depending on your connection, it may be a quick download for some or a pain for others. Once you have it up, you can then save it to your computer so you don't have to keep downloading it all the time.

For people that may prefer it electronically, we will be giving people a couple of months to try it out and see what they think--then for those that prefer it, we would like to start trimming some of the paper copies to save on printing and postage. Of course, those that still like the print version will still be able to get it in that manner. Besides saving IHMSA some costs, another advantage of getting the IHMSA News electronically will be that you be able to access it a few days before the snail mail version gets to your door.

So check it out, see what you think. If you are having any downloading problems, email me at ihmsaeditorjoe@gmail.com and we'll try to help you out (keep in mind, I'm no computer genius!).

Joe, a really super job of making the paper electronic; I really like it and will support a continuation of this electronic format. Hopefully, if this works out; IHMSA can begin printing all the scores rather than just the top one or two places for local matches. My guess is that in earlier days, due to the cost of printing the paper, it was cost prohibitive to print the entire match results from a local match. This would be especially helpful for new and begining shooters to see their name in print; since not many, if any, clubs hand out trophies for local matches these days.

One question, is there a setup cost involved in the continued printing of the newspaper, and if so, when will we reach a point where it cost more to setup and print the paper than the number of papers that are mailed to members ?

Also, in the PDF format, it may be possible to reduce the resolution of the file, which will reduce the size of the file greatly......if this has not already been done.

Great Job !!!!!

Great job, Joe !!!
I agree. It would be great to have ALL scores listed. That is why I have been posting them in the State section for all to see.
Feel free to take me off of the Snail Mail list at any time.

Thank you Joe. Will each month's news be kept on the site so that they can be looked back upon, or will the last issue be eliminated when the next issue comes out?. I hope I didn't confuse anyone with what I mean. It' always nice to look at back issues for reference's on something. Also as mentioned, how do we get removed from the printed issues?

Great questions…

To stop your snail mail IHMSA News, contact Cindy at HQ.

I expect that past issues will remain on the website--I see no reason why they wouldn't.

There is a set up fee, and it is per page. At this point, I see the IHMSA News becoming larger (for instance, the June issue is going to be several pages longer than recent issues). But with HQ now being done on a volunteer basis, IHMSA is saving over $30,000 a year right there--so make sure and treat Cindy nice as she has taken that over as a volunteer in addition to working her full-time job.! We'll see how the electronic paper rolls out in the coming months, but the way postage expense has gone up, there could be some good savings there to counteract an increase in setup. We'll just have to see how things shake out there.

Feel free to put more than the class winners in your match reports--I think everyone should be listed. Some people already do this, and I will certainly run it. It is those newer and less experienced shooters that probably get a bigger kick out of seeing their name in the paper and seeing where they stack up with others.

I will look into the reduction of resolution of the PDF file if downloading speed is a problem for some.

Looks great. I'm no computer genius, but I didn't down load it. Unfortunately I only have access at work now. I have to be wary of downloads because of virus's and the amount of time it takes. I could actually read the one on the web.
