Does a XP-100 70-08 kick like a mule?

I just acquired another XP-100 chambered in 70-08. I am not a little fella, 6' and 240 lbs, the first time I shot it, it did a back flip right into my lap. I did shoot it again but that is about all I wanted of it. I am shooting factory rounds for now and it seems like it is a bit too much. I am sure missing my 7BR......wished I never would have gotten rid of it.....what was I thinking.

Try 23.0 grains of AA5744 with either 139 or 154 grain Hornady bullets. Very mild and very accurate. Another great load is 20.0 grains of SR 4759 with the same two bullets. Also very accurate and mild but the SR powder has been discontinued and is getting harder to find. The 7-08 factory ammo is a handful but your XP will be very easy/pleasant to shoot with the AA5744 load.

I have a 7-08 striker and with factory 140's or my hunting load 140 sierras over 40.5 gr. IMR 4064 there is no doubt you pulled the trigger. It will be more pleasant to shoot when you start loading for it . There are good reduced loads like 260 Striker mentioned and if your not set up the load for it you might give the Rem. managed recoil ammo a try.

I should have mentioned I shot my reduced loads out of a 7-08 Striker but your XP shouldn't be that different if you use reduced loads. I shot my 308 Striker today with some H335 loads made up by the previous owner and they really were hefty loads and they were just starting loads. I prefer my wimp loads!!!!

Thanks for the tip on the reduced loads, will start working on the AA5744 load. I have been out of competition for too long and will be getting back into next spring.

One of my favorite cartridges.....I just had one of my XP's rebarreled into a 7/08 from 7IHMSA about a year ago. I had worked up a number of loads in my 7/08 rifles for silhouette so I tried them in the XP. WOW! A real handfull. But worked up a reduced load using 31 grains of 4895 with a 110grain bullet and 150 grain for rams. Very comfortable and very accurate. And easy on recoil. Shot 40's all year with it, plus shootoffs with no problems at all. Much like the .308, you can shoot them hot, or reduced them down to pussycats.

who uses wimp loads?

My XP 7-08 (no muzzle brake) liked 38 Grs of 4895 with a Sierra 168 gr. bullet. was a handful but it shot accurate. They really get pissed at me when I shot it on 1/2 size!

It did break a Burris scope though.

My new XP though right now is being rebarrelled in 6.5x47 lapua

Dcs, do you WANT it to kick like a mule? Cause it can, if you want it too!
But, with certain powders, you can tame it down pretty good. Ive got a Wichita
MK 40 in 7 INT., and its about the same cartridge. I use 21.5 grains of SR-4759
in mine, shoots like a house afire!
