what ya doing new?

Post by ole95 »

ok after a week in the hospital and still pretty confined to the house I'm about full of this doom and gloom shit about IHMSA. Could we possibly talk about something positive, fun, exciting ,spending money but mainly about guns new set ups what not . I figure most hear are still shooting the same gun, load you did back when you wore leisure suits HOW DANG BORING 8-}
then you got the “It’s all about me” I did this 1979 I did that in 1982 who give a shit buddy wake up it’s 2014 what did you do last year did you shoot a new high score speaking of that
when was your last new high score probity not after the turn of the century for most
I got to see something 1st. hand last year that had been building all spring High standard 40 after mastering the BB UAS game was looking for a challenge (yes some still do) his 1st cast bullet 40. Over the summer I saw him close with I think two 39 I know it was going happen I was just afraid I would miss it but I was there I think i was just as happen as he was . He went on to shoot a 60x60 CB in the reg II. This year I expect to see him shoot a BB production CB 40 ^:)
When is the last time you tried a new challenge 30 years ago when you tried standing and found out you sucked at it so you never tried it again HOW DANG BORING 8-}
This upcoming season fined a new challenge you won’t new life in IHMSA then let that 40 year old breath out relex take deep breath of 2014 air and get excited put fun and excitement back in the local matches and you mite just see some excitement at headquarters and this forum
You will have to look over me the meds .theve got me on has had my bowels back up for a week
I just took a laxative and the crap came this way b-(

ok I'll start this off
this year I plan to go NUDE (NO SCOPES ) But will shoot some scoped class but with open sights
I'm total revamping my BB with a new PRO and U gun both on the whisper platform with peep sight,s slight revamp of my 32-20 standing gun and may use my pro gun some
ALL WITH CAST BULLETS (Charlie got me fired up) my AS HS gun is now a U HS gun with peep on peep >all cheap Contenders
not much change in SB and experimenting in FP
I've never/may never shoot a 40 but if and when I do to think that I did that 1st. one with open sights and maybe cast bullets :ymparty: :ymparty:

JRS - That short stay really got your battery all charged up!!!! You have the right attitude though. Try something new and use lead bullets at the same time. New guns and new loads at matches are fun. You don't expect much so you just relax and shoot. I tried a new FP gun/load over a year ago, stepped to the line and nailed the first chicken dead center. Told myself this is going to be a piece of cake. When I got done with my entry I had a grand total of ONE. Got to laughing so hard the more I shot I couldn't even hit the berms but it sure was fun. How can anyone hit the first target perfectly then miss 39?????? Don't bash us old geezers for remembering the good old days since a lot of us are just making more of them now along with newer shooters. Still the best shooting game around as far as I am concerned. Now if I can just get my new 30 Carbine with cast to shoot as well as you do I will be very happy. Glad to hear you are getting your groove back!!!!

I want to shoot into the air pistol 60 Standing club this year. I bought a 747 with Martins' sights to have a Standing gun.

Great Idea....what are you doing new for this year. I finished my first Anschutz with a complete new barrel and stock last year, so for this year I am rebarreling one of my old XP's from 7IHMSA to 7/08. New barrel from Hart and a new HS Precision stock. Found some .940 length 7mm jackets and started making some 110 grain 7mm jacketed bullets that grouped very well out of my rifles and wanted to try them in silhouette(I usually have been shooting my 125 and 150 jacketed bullets in the past). Also came across a 7 International Rimmed 14" Contender barrel(I already had a Wichita in this caliber, so plenty of brass and a set of dies). Picked us several Tasco 6X Proclass scopes in the past several months. I've been able to pick up some of Georgia Jim's stocks and forends for several of my TC's. Need to get away from those old boring Pachmyer's that I've had for over 30 years. I've been reading up on Bellum's web site about the Contenders and have the 7Int. Rimmed grouping very well at the present time....need some warm weather to really get things going..

SO.....looking forward to my 37th season of shooting IHMSA Silhouettes! Our matches have really turned around in the past five years, due to a gentleman who is really promoting the sport and helping out. We've gone from 5 or 6 entries to 25 to 30 for each match. It feels like the old days....people working up new loads and guns...lots of chatter on new equipment..ect....No doom and gloom for Southeast Iowa. :D

Mugs....still got a LOT of lead bullets in my boxes...but when I started making my own jacketed bullets I got bit pretty hard. I should break out the lead and use them again...It would be a good project to start up again. Wish I could shoot without the scopes, but the old eyes have really gone to the dogs. Please give Bev a hug for me and Kate! :ymhug:

Waiting on my new 30BR to be finished for UAS and UASHS..

Waiting on my newly acquired RPM XL with the .22LR, .357mag and 270max to get shipped out...

Mid-way converting my 14.5" Shillen Barreled Anschutz to Single Shot mid grip in a new McMillan stock..

Want to crack a 40 in 5th scale.

And get to the mid 30's in Cowboy L/A Silhouette in both Rimfire and Pistol Cartridge...

Got 5th scale and HS match tomorrow at my club..

Dad will be running his new 7mmPPC Wichita for its first match...

Love having 4 weekends a month to shoot at my home club 15min from my place.
Generally Shoot Cowboy L/A MS on the first weekend, FP on the 2nd, BB on the 3rd and RF on the 4th.. apart from special shoots.. =))

Great Thread!!
I put together a FPAS gun in 22 Hornet near the end of last year. I also put together a FPP gun in 22 Mag. Thought that I could do rather well in those. Huh. Well maybe not so well. All of Ya'll that are going to the ECC will be witness to that!!.
I got my hands on a Clay Spencer 7x47 XP that belonged to Jay Moscoe. I have been trying to work up some loads for that and have some success. Just has been too danged cold for me to have any fun out at the range. I did not register an Unlimited gun, but will bring it incase I am allowed to work it in someplace.
I have also taken over as Match Director. We will see how that goes. We start up in April, so let the fun begin!!

Hey Bobcat,

I have a 7PPC but haven't found any load info. What's your Dad shooting? Where did he get dies? I think I know where to get dies, but load info is non-existent. Is he opening up 6PPC brass or is 7PPC available?

Thanks,

Troy
