Tonedaddy, you are so correct about the sr-4759. I had heard a rumor about
this on another forum, so I called Hodgdon and talked to a fellow named David,
and he confirmed that the manufactorer was no longer going to make this
propellant. I also heard on the same forum, that 5744 was another powder that
was going to be discontinued. I happened to be close to Mcbrides gunshop in
Austin, Texas last weekend, and he had 3 one pound cans on the shelf, and I
bought all three of them. It is an excellent powder, and I use it in my 7Int Wichita
Unlimited gun, and also in my two .500 Smith & Wesson revolvers.

Isn't 4759 made by IMR?

Hodgdon, IMR, and Winchester powders are all held by the same company.

Hodgdon doesnt make ANY powder. They buy it, made to their specs or the specs
the original powder maker had. I think most of Hodgdons powder is made by
St. Marks, in Florida, I believe.

Official response
"After monitoring the IHMSA web site the last few months we gave determined that Silhouette shooting is on the decline and that IHMSA will probably fold in the next few years. With Silhouette Shooters being our major consumer of Sr4759 we have decided to stop production of this powder. This will allow us to increase production of powders used in the “Black guns” with their high capacity rapid fire events this market will be the major player in our business. We would like to thanks you for your many years of support and we hope this change will not have a negative impact on the decline of your sport"

I called them today and the inept idiot named Mike, that I talked to, did not even know enough about his company's powder to tell me what powder would be a close second. Very sad.

Re: To all you SR4759 users
This happened once before, I think back in late 70's or mid-80's, because
of low volume sales. I dont have any idea why they brought it back, but
they did. Now, they canceling it again! I guess all we can hope for is
that enough people call or write em, maybe they will bring it back.

They dropped in for awhile back in the '80s....then brought it back a few years later. At that time a lot of the Cast Bullet Association shooters were using it for reduced loads. Worked great! Used to use it myself at one time.....
If I remember correctly, many of the CBA shooters kept writing to the company to bring it back. Perhaps that will need to be done again.

Re: To all you SR4759 users
I called Hodgdon over a week ago about dropping this and other powders. The guy told me they are making one more lot, probably now, of 4759 and that will be the last run. He said it didn't sell well and their profit margin just wasn't there. He said this lot should last through 2015 and then it would be hard to find.
