Match Write-up
2019 Oklahoma State IHMSA Championship
May 31st, June 1st, 2nd
(By Jim Fields Match Director)
With the weather co-operating with warm temperatures & light winds, our state match was a huge success with 232 total entries. We had a lot of rain leading up to this match & luckily it shut down just in time, with an exception of one rain delay on Saturday. Rest of the days were totally calm winds & bright sunshine which made for ideal shooting conditions.
Some great scores were shot, but the good news was everyone had a great time shooting steel no matter what their scores were.
The cook-out on Saturday evening was great with Debbie Tessman, Joe & Teresa Coleman doing the honors with the hamburgers & brauts.
We had a total of 50 perfect scores shot in this match which was an OKCGC record for a sixty-round, 3-day championship match. Old record was 42.
In BIG BORE; eight 60x60's, in BB 1/2 SCALE; three 60x60's, in SMALL BORE; twenty 60x60's, in SB 1/5 SCALE; two 60X60's, in PRACTICAL HUNTER; eight 60x60's, AIR; nine 40x40's, & in ULTRA 500; Steve's 40X40 iron-sight score. Woody Liddell fired a 60x60 in both UASHS & UHS for an aggregate 120x120, you can't do any better than that. Another amazing statistic, there were twenty-two 59x60's, that's fantastic shooting guys & gals.
So the highlight of our match was Steve Marten, IHMSA's president, firing a perfect 40x40 iron sight score & also a 39x40 scope score on the ULTRA 500 course of fire for a 79x80 aggregate, which both are world record scores, congratulations Steve, that was phenomenal shooting, our hats are off to you my man.
Linda Lanning shot a BB-UAS 57x60 & followed that up by winning the high lady in SB-UAS with a 59x60. congrats Linda. Robin Weaver was Practical Hunter high lady with a 60x60. Great shooting gals.
Lever gun aggregate winner was Don Faulkenberry
We appreciated all of our out-of-state shooters who attended this match.
We had a fair response from some of the manufacturers & dealers for our sport of silhouette shooting which included Burris & Starline. We raffled off a TC Compass bolt action rifle chambered for the ever-so popular 6.5 Creedmoor with a 4x12 Vortex scope, with Scott Thompson holding the winning ticket.
Our appreciation goes to all who donated their products to our state match.
Our target setters did a great job of moving the match along all three days, thanks guys & gals, my thanks also go to all who helped me make this match a total success, including my co-match director Jim Myers, Woody Liddell, & also Tom Vesper, Dan Baily & Roger Arens calling the line.
We averaged twenty-four (24) relays per day during this 3-day state match, WOW!!!! That is a bunch of relays per day, thanks to our auto-reset system. We had a rain delay on Saturday afternoon, so we retreated to the main clubhouse & shot the AIR part of our match & after the storm passed, proceeded with the cook-out
Those helping with the noon meals were Debra Tessman & Teresa Coleman. Thanks gals.
iHMSA's World Championship as everyone should know by now is set for next month, July 12th thru the 20th at our club.
Remember our South Central 60 round Championship match coming October 4th, 5th, & 6th. We are also going to host an AR-15 Steel Plate Challenge match on Thursday the 3rd, make plans to shoot in that one also. Takes approximately 100 rounds of ammo if you shoot all three 20 round disciplines, try it it's great fun. We shoot this AR match at OKCGC the last Saturday of each month March thru November.
See all the results accompanying this article.
Shoot safe, shoot straight & see you at the next match.
